Hi Louise,

François has mentionned some pointers. In the specific field of
evolutionary ecology, you will find much more IBMs (Individual-Based
Models) rather than ABMs. Tom Ray’s Tierra program is a milestone.
Nowadays this kind of simulation is referred to as "digital organisms"
by researchers like Adami. (see their paper in Nature from August 12.,
1999, or this more recent reference too: Wilke and Adami (2002) The
biology of Digital Organisms Trends in Ecology and Evolution 17: 528-532).
One nice example to introduce ABM would be a model with some natural
resources having their own dynamics driven by evolutionary forces but
also used in some ways (harvested for instance) by some "agents". I
cannot see anything like this for the moment.

Best regards,
clp
