Please find below a job posting at the IAMO institute in Halle (Saale),
Germany.

The Institute of Agricultural Development in Central and Eastern Europe
(IAMO) conducts basic and applied economic research in the field of
international agricultural development. Its regional focus is on the former
socialist countries in Central and Eastern Europe, including the CIS. The
institute analyses issues related to economic policies, the development of
agricultural and food markets as well as of farms and food processing
enterprises. IAMO provides a knowledge base of strategies for an economic
and socially sustainable improvement of the agri-food sector and assists in
implementing these strategies (cf. www.iamo.de).

The Institute of Agricultural Development in Central and Eastern Europe is
seeking for 1. April 2004 or earlier three

RESEARCH ASSISTANTS (BAT-Ost IIa 3/4)

to work for up to three years in the EU-funded research projects

IDEMA (The Impact of Decoupling and Modulation in the Enlarged Union: a
sectoral and farm level assessment)

and/or

MEA-SCOPE (Micro-economic instruments for impact assessment of
multifunctional agriculture to implement the Model of European Agriculture)

Main tasks are

• The further development of the spatial and dynamic policy simulation model
AgriPoliS (user interfaces, implementation of additional policy options, GIS
interfaces, interfaces to exchange data with other project models, such as
e.g. MODAM and FASSET)

• Adaptation of AgriPoliS to selected regions of the enlarged EU

• Quantitative policy analyses with respect to the decoupling of direct
payments and to evaluate concepts of multifunctional agriculture

Requirements include a degree equivalent to a Diploma or MSc, preferably in
agricultural economics, an excellent knowledge of the rele-vant theories as
well as quantitative methods, excellent skills in written and spoken
English. The ability and interest to work in international teams is expected
as well as a substantial interest in complex modelling and programming
tasks. Experience in modelling and program-ming, particularly in LP and
agent-based models, is welcome.
