We are pleased to announce that on January 1, 2004 Conservation Ecology will
have a new name, Ecology & Society: a journal of integrative science for
resilience and sustainability. The journal’s new name better reflects its
integrative content, and emphasizes the connection between human and
ecological systems. With over 11,000 subscribers worldwide, a reputation for
publishing high-quality scholarship, and an impact factor of 2.8, the
journal will continue to publish peer-reviewed articles covering topics
relating to the ecological, political, and social foundations for resilient
and sustainable social-ecological systems. Issues published under the
previous name of Conservation Ecology (www.consecol.org) will be maintained
and made accessible from both websites.

What types of articles do we publish?

Ecology and Society seeks papers that are novel, integrative, and written in
a way that is accessible to a wide audience.

Content of the journal ranges from the applied to the theoretical. In
general, papers should cover topics relating to the ecological, political,
and social foundations for sustainable social-ecological systems.
Specifically, the journal publishes articles that present research findings
on the following issues:

(a) the conservation, management, and sustainable use of ecological
systems, resources and biological diversity at all levels,

(b) the role natural systems play in social and political systems and
conversely, the effect of social, economic and political institutions on
ecological systems and services, and

(c) the means by which we can develop and sustain desired ecological,
social and political states.
