Two Assistant Professors in Institutions, Society and the Environment

The School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University
invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in the area of
institutions, society and the environment. These hires are associated with
the creation of ASU's Center for the Study of Institutional Diversity
(http:// <http://www.csid.asu.edu/> csid.asu.edu), a sister center to the
Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis at Indiana University. The
new center has a key focus on the analysis of institutions operating in
natural resource and urban contexts. More broadly, these appointments will
support ASU's innovative interdisciplinary academic program in environmental
social science. The successful candidate will initiate or participate in the
development and execution of externally-funded interdisciplinary research,
publish in scholarly journals, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and
perform appropriate university, professional, and community service.

Required qualifications are: an earned doctorate at the time of appointment
in a relevant field such as anthropology, public policy, political science,
economics, human ecology, or sociology; a demonstrated record of scholarly
achievement in the study of institutions, society and the environment, and
an ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary setting.

Desired qualifications are: a record of applying field-based skills and
quantitative methods to the study of social-environmental systems; a
research focus on urban environments, water resources, or other natural
resources; demonstrated teaching ability; strong communication skills; an
established publication record; and a demonstrated interest in collaborating
with approaches based on formal modeling and controlled experiments.

Applications will be reviewed starting January 16, 2007 and, if not filled,
every two weeks thereafter until the search is closed. Applicants must
submit all of the following: letter of interest including research and
teaching statements; current curriculum vita; names, addresses, phone
numbers, and email addresses of three professional references to Chair of
CSID Search, School of Human Evolution and Social Change, Arizona State
University, PO Box 873211, Tempe, AZ 85287-2402. A background check is
required for employment. AA/EOE
