Postdoctoral Positions in Modeling Land-Water Interactions of Temperate
Landscapes

The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Center for Limnology, Department of
Zoology and Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment anticipate
two openings for postdoctoral research scientists, focusing on the
hydrological and biogeochemical processes involved with the land-water
interactions of temperate landscapes. One position will likely focus on
modeling the hydrological linkages between lakes and forests, and the
resulting transfers and transformations of carbon across the landscape. The
other position will likely consider new modeling approaches for examining
thresholds in the delivery of phosphorus from complex landscape mosaics to
lakes, and the resulting potential for abrupt eutrophication of lake
ecosystems. The postdoctoral scientists will be collaborating with
Professors Steve Carpenter, Monica Turner, Jonathan Foley and other
scientists at the UW-Madison.

We seek applicants with significant experience in ecosystem / hydrological
modeling and landscape analysis. We strongly encourage applicants with
demonstrated experience in synthesizing information from different
disciplines , including ecosystem and landscape ecology, aquatic and
terrestrial biogeochemistry, limnology, hydrology, soil science, climatology
and geospatial analysis. Candidates with strong analytical skills, plus
excellent communication, writing and collaborative skills would be
especially welcome.

The positions would begin in January 2006, or at another mutually-agreed
date.

Candidates should send their C.V., a sample of representative publications,
a one page statement of research interests, and the names and contact
information of three references. For full consideration, applications must
be received by November 1, 2005. Applications will be reviewed until
suitable candidates are found. Application packages (electronic only) may be
sent to Denise Karns: dkkarns@wisc.edu.

The University of Wisconsin - Madison is an equal opportunity employer, and
is strongly committed to enhancing the diversity and quality of it's
faculty, staff and student body. Women and minority candidates are
especially encouraged to apply.
