Post Doctoral Research Position in River Basin Water Resources Management
The Department of Systems Analysis, Integrated Assessment and Modelling
(http://www.eawag.ch/research_e/siam), at the Swiss Federal Institute of
Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag; http://www.eawag.ch) would like to
appoint a post-doctoral research scientist to build-up an integrated model
for agricultural water resources management in sub-catchments of the Haihe
River Basin in China. The research is an integral part of an ongoing project
on the same river basin currently being carried out in the department in
collaboration with institutions in China.
The scientist will conduct a study on farmers’ influence on water use and
farming behaviour and their responses to changes in water availability and
policies relating to water institutions and management. He/she is expected
to develop a socio-economic model of farmer behaviour for this project.
Designing and conducting or supervising field surveys in the catchments
concerned are also required. The farmers’ model developed should then be
integrated with the other aspects of research on the Haihe River Basin
already carried out in the department. Of special interest is coupling with
a hydrologic watershed model that predicts the effect of farmer’s behaviour
on in-stream and reservoir water quality.
The candidate for this position is expected to hold a PhD degree in one (or
more) of the following disciplines: agricultural economics, environmental
management, social sciences and simulation. He/she should also possess good
skills of programming and modelling. Publications in international journals
in the relevant fields are required. Knowledge of the Chinese language is an
advantage, but not a requirement, as surveys can be carried out by our
Chinese partners.
The duration of the appointment is initially for 1 year with the possibility
of extension to two years. The position is available immediately. The
location of the position is at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic
Science and Technology (Eawag), Duebendorf, Switzerland. Please submit your
