Repeated announcement of PhD vacancy

Law enforcing organisations, like the police and army, are developing an
increased interest in ‘crowd and riot control ‘ (CRC), which relates to
the managing and controlling of crowds. Currently these organisations
mainly focus on strategies to de-escalate situations. Less knowledge is
available concerning the prevention of escalations. The proposed
research will focus on collective behaviour within the field of CRC.
Based on an analysis of determinants of group behaviour and violence a
model will be developed aimed to capture the dynamics of such group
behaviour. In the project attention will be given to (1) the
identification of parameters of group violence, (2) the development of a
multi-agent computer simulation model aimed at studying the dynamics of
group violence processes, and (3) empirical validation of the model. The
project is a collaboration between TNO, Human Factors, Dept. Team
Functioning, and the University of Groningen, Faculty of Management and
Organisation,

SOM research school. People involved in this project are Dr. A.J. van
Vliet (TNO), Prof. R. Jorna (University of Groningen) and Dr. W. Jager
(University of Groningen).
